Caribbean dynamite, Chris Gayle, who just led his domestic side Jamaica to win the Caribbean Premier League, has stated that he is mentally drained due to the recent hectic schedule
of cricket he has had to go through. The globally wanted batsman has
featured in a total of 71 games across the three formats, with more than
half of them for domestic Twenty20 franchises.
“It’s been a long road, and I am very, very tired mentally,” said Gayle.
“It was a challenging time batting-wise in the Tri-nation series
(against India and Sri Lanka) and then against Pakistan, and to have
come and played a captain’s part in the CPL has been really, really,
stressing,” he further added.
Gayle was the skipper of his domestic side in the CPL and scored an unbeaten 47 in the finale to clinch the title. In this year so far, he has had to travel across continents, featuring in the Big Bash League, Bangladesh Premier League and Indian Premier League, alongside his national duties.
Starting from the Big Bash in Australia, he had to fly back to the Caribbean for a couple of T20 matches before accompanying his national side back to Australia.
He then joined Dhaka Gladiators in the BPL for one match, where he
scored a valuable ton, before flying back home to face Zimbabwe.
Then came the Indian Premier League, where Gayle features for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, which was then followed by the ICC Champions Trophy.
After that, there was the Tri-nation series and a full bilateral
competition against Pakistan, in which Gayle had to show up for every
game.
“It’s been quite a lot, and I am really, really happy that it is over now. No more cricket for me until the next three months,” shared Gayle.
One of the most successful batsmen in the world right now, Gayle
ended up as the CPL’s fourth highest scorer with a total of 234 runs
under his belt. Now the Caribbean Kings are scheduled to visit New
Zealand at the end of this year.
