New Zealand have named big-hitter <span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="border-color: initial; border-image: initial; border-style: initial; box-sizing: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit;">Tom Bruce</span></span> and allrounder <span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="border-color: initial; border-image: initial; border-style: initial; box-sizing: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit;">Ben Wheeler</span></span> in their 14-player squad for the upcoming T20s against Bangladesh. Allrounder <span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="border-color: initial; border-image: initial; border-style: initial; box-sizing: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit;">Corey Anderson</span></span>, who has been plagued by a back injury for the major part of this year, has been picked as a batsman. Fast bowler Trent Boult was picked but will be rested for the first of the three T20s. Fellow quick Tim Southee has been rested for the entire series in preparation for the two Tests that follow.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: georgia; font-size: 16px; font-stretch: inherit; font-variant-numeric: inherit; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 18px; margin-left: 169.188px; margin-right: 84.5938px; padding: 0px; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="border-color: initial; border-image: initial; border-style: initial; box-sizing: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit;">Ross Taylor</span></span>, who had <span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="border-color: initial; border-image: initial; border-style: initial; box-sizing: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit;">had surgery</span></span> to remove a benign growth in his left eye after the Hamilton Test against Pakistan in late November, has not been picked for this series, but will return to domestic T20 cricket "within the next few days", according to selector <span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="border-color: initial; border-image: initial; border-style: initial; box-sizing: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit;">Gavin Larsen</span></span>.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: georgia; font-size: 16px; font-stretch: inherit; font-variant-numeric: inherit; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 18px; margin-left: 169.188px; margin-right: 84.5938px; padding: 0px; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;">
Anderson had played in the World T20 in March, before the back injury ruled him out of the tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa. He then returned for the five-match ODI series in India in October, where he was also <span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="border-color: initial; border-image: initial; border-style: initial; box-sizing: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit;">picked as just a batsman</span></span>. He managed only <span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="border-color: initial; border-image: initial; border-style: initial; box-sizing: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit;">31 runs in four games</span></span> there, and tried his hand at bowling in the final match - he sent down four overs, conceding 27 runs, for no wicket. Subsequently he was left out of the Chappell-Hadlee ODIs in Australia, which Taylor had also missed due to his surgery.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: georgia; font-size: 16px; font-stretch: inherit; font-variant-numeric: inherit; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 18px; margin-left: 169.188px; margin-right: 84.5938px; padding: 0px; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;">
Larsen said uncapped Central Districts batsmen Bruce would boost the squad's hitting power. "Tom has been one of the leading players in the Super Smash [the domestic T20 competition] the past two years and is one of the cleanest strikers of a cricket ball in the country. He <span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="border-color: initial; border-image: initial; border-style: initial; box-sizing: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit;">has averaged 76</span></span> at a strike-rate of 174 so far this season, so Tom has proven himself to be a very dangerous player," he said. "Power is a critical element to Twenty20 cricket, so to have him alongside the likes of Martin [Guptill], Corey and the two Colins [Munro and de Grandhomme] is an exciting prospect."</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: georgia; font-size: 16px; font-stretch: inherit; font-variant-numeric: inherit; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 18px; margin-left: 169.188px; margin-right: 84.5938px; padding: 0px; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;">
Left-arm-pace-bowling allrounder Wheeler, also from Central Districts, had played six ODIs between June and August 2015, but is yet to play a T20 international. He has not contributed much with the bat in the Super Smash so far this season, but has six wickets from five games at 27.16.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: georgia; font-size: 16px; font-stretch: inherit; font-variant-numeric: inherit; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 18px; margin-left: 169.188px; margin-right: 84.5938px; padding: 0px; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;">
"Ben has put in a lot of hard work to get to this point again, so we're looking forward to having him back in the mix," Larsen said. "His ability to swing the ball at a decent clip can trouble any batsman, as he has shown in domestic cricket this season.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: georgia; font-size: 16px; font-stretch: inherit; font-variant-numeric: inherit; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 18px; margin-left: 169.188px; margin-right: 84.5938px; padding: 0px; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;">
"We've got some really exciting players coming through and it's important to give them opportunities and introduce them to the international stage. There are a number of players who just missed out - the likes of Mark Chapman, Neil Wagner, George Worker and Seth Rance were all seriously considered."</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: georgia; font-size: 16px; font-stretch: inherit; font-variant-numeric: inherit; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 18px; margin-left: 169.188px; margin-right: 84.5938px; padding: 0px; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;">
The three T20s against Bangladesh will be played from January 3 in Napier. This series is New Zealand's first T20I assignment since the World T20.</div>

<b><span style="color: red; font-size: large;">THE OUTLOOK:</span></b></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: helvetica, 'Segoe UI', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 30px; text-align: justify;">
Perennially mercurial in a format that embraces the sport's unpredictability, Pakistan promise dollops of excitement in the ICC World T20 2016. They may have left their fans and selectors tearing their hair out after a lukewarm show in the Asia Cup T20, but can just as easily turn it on and go all the way to win the World Cup. That's just how they like to roll. In Shahid Afridi, the 2009 champions have a leader who despite being in the twilight of his international career, can still galvanise Pakistan's cricket. More importantly, Afridi knows what goes into winning an event like this, having famously starred in the semis and finals in their title triumph in England, in 2009. Pakistan have power, pace and panache. If they can find some pluck, they should go a long way in the tournament.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: helvetica, 'Segoe UI', Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 30px;">
<b><span style="color: red; font-size: large;">ICYMI:</span></b></div>

Pakistan have been making news even before they landed in India for the tournament. Diplomacy, political undertones, squad changes, banter - the newspapers have been replete with stories. The marquee fixture against India has been moved from Dharamsala to Kolkata following concerns of security. On the team front, Pakistan's Khurram Manzoor experiment fell flat on its face as the opener went through a disastrous Asia Cup, paving the way for Ahmed Shehzad's return.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: helvetica, 'Segoe UI', Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 30px;">
<b><span style="color: red; font-size: large;">KEY POINTS:</span></b></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: helvetica, 'Segoe UI', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 30px; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #274e13;">1. On the move </span><span style="color: #333333;">-</span></b><span style="color: #333333;"> Pakistan have been travelling non stop since the turn of the year. A tour to New Zealand in January was followed by the inaugural edition of the PSL in the UAE. The team flew to Bangladesh for the Asia Cup and now will be away for a third straight month. Workload management will become a factor for Pakistan especially if they make a deep run in the tournament.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: helvetica, 'Segoe UI', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 30px; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #274e13;">2. Off the field action</span><span style="color: #333333;"> -</span></b><span style="color: #333333;"> The dialogue between India and Pakistan and the ensuing uncertainty surrounding their participation in the tournament cannot have been easy on Pakistan's players, who now have the onerous task of hitting the ground running. They play their first warm-up game a day after they land in India and will need to get acclimatised to conditions quickly.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: helvetica, 'Segoe UI', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 30px; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #274e13;">3. Strengths - 'Pace is pace yaar'</span><span style="color: #333333;"> -</span></b><span style="color: #333333;"> Fast bowling has traditionally been Pakistan's big strength. The 2016 WT20 is no different. In Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Sami - they have, arguably, the most potent pace-bowling attack in the tournament. On the flip side, this also poses significant selection issues for the captain. To play a right combination of these bowlers. But it's a headache they'd gladly bear.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: helvetica, 'Segoe UI', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 30px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #274e13;"><b>4. Weakness -</b> </span><span style="color: #333333;">Pakistan's top-order woes have been well-documented. Sharjeel Khan scored a hundred in the PSL last month but has since found his batting bereft of timing. Mohammad Hafeez and Ahmed Shehzad will need to contribute significantly at the top if the team has to post significant totals on batting-friendly wickets in India. The explosive Umar Akmal will once again hold the key to Pakistan's batting from the middle order.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: helvetica, 'Segoe UI', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 30px; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #274e13;">5. Form -</span></b><span style="color: #333333;"> Pakistan enter the World Cup on a patchy run of T20 form in 2016. They won their opening game against New Zealand in Auckland but slipped to successive defeats to lose the series before folding tamely in the Asia Cup. A victory over beleaguered Sri Lanka in a dead-rubber game in Mirpur might give them just the right kind of confidence boost they'd dearly wanted.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: helvetica, 'Segoe UI', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 30px; text-align: justify;">
<b>SPOTLIGHT'S ON:</b></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: helvetica, 'Segoe UI', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 30px; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #274e13;">1. Shahid Afridi </span><span style="color: #333333;">-</span></b><span style="color: #333333;"> Pakistan's skipper created quite a stir by claiming he was planning on reconsidering his retirement. The 36-year-old, who had originally stated that the World T20 in 2016 would be his last international assignment, has been going through a rather lean patch with the bat and has courted considerable criticism for it, with a section of the media asking for his removal as Pakistan captain after the Asia Cup exit. Afridi, though, retains the faith of the board, at least for the World Cup, and the enormity of the event could just about stroke his competitive edge to life one final time.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: helvetica, 'Segoe UI', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 30px; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #274e13;">2. Mohammad Amir</span><span style="color: #333333;"> -</span></b><span style="color: #333333;"> Amir's return following a five-year suspension for indulging in spot-fixing has been one of the most protracted debates of 2016. There have been literally no debates about his prodigious skill with the ball, with the exception of a certain Rohit Sharma, who wishes to wait on his judgement. A world stage would be the ideal platform for the youngster to light up and attempt to put to rest any lingering doubts of his presence.</span></div>

Pakistan, being Pakistan can upset the apple-cart and can go all the way in the tournament but in Group 2, they find themselves having to play India, Australia, New Zealand and potentially Bangladesh, who boast significantly more rounded sides. If Afridi's men don't sort their batting out soon, they'll find themselves missing out on a semi-final berth for only the second time in World T20s.</div>

<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
The Sheffield Shield final may be held at Manuka Oval in Canberra or
Gliderol Stadium in Glenelg after both New South Wales and South
Australia were forced to find alternatives to their main venues. The
last round of matches begins on Tuesday and will determine the
finalists, with South Australia, New South Wales and Western Australia
all equal on 26 points at the top of the table and Queensland also in
contention on 22 points. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
South Australia had already advised that if they were to host the final
it would be held in Glenelg instead of at Adelaide Oval due to a Rolling
Stones concert, and New South Wales have also had to come up with
another plan. The SCG will be in use for Major League Baseball matches
between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks, and
Cricket New South Wales has nominated Manuka Oval as its final venue. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
The Blues will play Western Australia at Manuka Oval in the final round
in a match that will go a long way to determining the make-up of the
final, although South Australia's match in Hobart against Tasmania will
also be important. Last year's runners-up, Queensland, could also
catapult themselves into the decider if they beat Victoria at the MCG. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
All three of the top sides will benefit from the return of Test players
from the tour of South Africa, with Steven Smith to captain New South
Wales, who also gain Nathan Lyon. Shaun Marsh is likely to rejoin the
Western Australia outfit, perhaps as a replacement for his brother
Mitchell, who suffered a side strain in last week's match. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Phillip Hughes will make his return for South Australia but the Redbacks
will be without their captain Johan Botha, who was suspended for one
match for a bizarre incident in last week's match against New South
Wales. Botha was believed to have called for the new ball during the New
South Wales innings and then rubbed the old ball on his boot spikes
before throwing it off the ground.

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Cricket Australia remains confident that a day-night Test against New
Zealand in November 2015 will be feasible despite mixed reviews from
players and coaches after a trial in last week's Sheffield Shield
matches. Pink balls were used in games at the Gabba, Adelaide Oval and
the MCG and while some positive feedback was received from players and
fans, others voiced concerns over visibility and the quality of the
balls. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Queensland batsman Chris Lynn said he struggled to see the white seam on
the pink ball, which made it hard to pick swing and spin from the
bowler's hand, and Victoria's captain Matthew Wade said he could not see
day-night Test cricket happening quickly. The Victoria coach Greg
Shipperd said from the rooms he found the ball difficult to see and it
went too soft too soon, and the pink colour could scrape off the surface
of the ball, leaving dark patches. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
But Cricket Australia's general manager of cricket operations, Sean
Cary, said he was confident that further work on developing the pink
ball would allow Australia to host New Zealand for a historic day-night
Test in 2015-16. He said Cricket Australia staff had surveyed fans at
all three venues and found that there were some visibility issues at the
Gabba, but the Adelaide Oval and MCG had been more successful. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"The fans were really excited in both Adelaide and Melbourne," Cary told <i>ABC Grandstand</i>
on Saturday. "We had some mixed views from the Gabba. I'm not sure if
the lighting at the Gabba is slightly different to Adelaide Oval and the
MCG. Some of the fans, and I was one of those on one of the nights up
there, actually found it a bit more difficult to pick the ball up from
the stands. But from the MCG and Adelaide Oval the pink ball shone out
beautifully. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"The fact that we had two matches go pretty much to the death-knock with
very exciting finishes, batsmen scoring centuries, spinners taking
wickets and fast bowlers taking wickets, we believe we created a
balanced approach … we certainly had balls wearing differently across
the three venues and pleasingly none of the balls fell apart." </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Adelaide Oval looms as the most likely venue for the inaugural day-night
Test, with the MCG and SCG not considered due to their traditional
Boxing Day and New Year's matches, while the WACA would be unlikely
given it is already in a time-zone that suits the broadcasters for
eastern states prime time viewing. Hobart is another option and Cary
said further trials next summer would include a match at Bellerive Oval. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"We'll have feedback for Kookaburra and hopefully they can continue to
work on that pink ball and by November 2015 we should have a product
that's ready for international cricket," he said. "We're certainly
working towards that. Our friends across the ditch in New Zealand are
very keen for every opportunity to create a day-night Test match. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"We'll have another opportunity in the summer of 2014-15 to continue the
trial. Hopefully we'll be able to schedule it in the early rounds, in
November, which is when Australia is scheduled to play New Zealand in
the 2015 three-Test match series. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"I think our next step would be to try and get a day-night Shield match
down in Hobart to see how that goes, and look at the Gabba and Adelaide
Oval again ... Having just been to the three venues, I really found it a
pleasant experience at both the MCG and Adelaide Oval. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"It was difficult to pick the pink ball up in Brisbane, it actually
looked a little bit more orange than it did pink in Brisbane. So at this
stage Adelaide Oval would be a great venue, but there's so many
different factors that have to pass under the bridge before we decide
which ground it could be held at."
</div>

<br />
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Nepal captain Paras Khadka
strode into the press conference room at a Dhaka hotel impressively. He
stressed how Nepal have been working for more than a decade to get to
this level, and not just to play in this edition of the World T20. They
are among six teams to have made it to the first round of the World T20
from the Qualifier tournament held in the UAE last November. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"I think we are here to present Nepal cricket in front of the whole
world," Khadka said. "It is a great opportunity for us. It is not like
we have only qualified for this tournament and worked for three months.
We have been playing for 10-12 years with hard work and playing
continuous cricket. We are here to compete and play to the best of our
ability. If we play to our potential, things should be good for us." </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Khadka said that Nepal's participation in the tournament will boost
cricket in the country, as the government has already taken interest. "I
think we have been playing cricket since 1996. We have been part of the
ACC (Asian Cricket Council) since then. CAN (Cricket Association of
Nepal) is one of the oldest sporting associations back home. We are
getting there. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"Football and cricket are the two most popular sports. Everybody follows
us. Kids love the game. The game is really growing big time. It is very
exciting. We have an amazing fan following back home. The number of
cricket fans that we have matches any Test-playing country. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"For most people, Nepal came as a huge surprise to be playing at this
level. This will be a breakthrough for the country itself. Once we
qualified for the World Cup, the government is very keen to find out how
to develop cricket further. I hope we can move forward from here." </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Nepal shot to fame in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka where
they became Plate champions, and Khadka said the senior team is now
following up on the younger batch's impressive showing in that
tournament over the years. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"There was always the criticism that we only do well at the U-19 level.
But the national team is doing well in the last two years. You need the
junior structure as well. What we need is a basic structure back home." </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
After Khadka, Rahul Vishwakarma
said how he, like all his team-mates, had aspired to reach this stage
since childhood. He met one of his heroes, Shakib Al Hasan, but didn't
get a chance to talk to him. Like Shakib, he is a left-arm spinner and
left-hand batsman and doesn't lack the confidence too.

<h2>
<span style="color: red;">5th ODI Preview</span></h2>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A series that at one stage seemed competitive has all of a sudden
begun to feel like a one-sided one. Pakistan have been terrific with the
bat all series before reclaiming their prowess with the ball, while Sri
Lanka have allowed all areas of their game to slip. An eight-wicket
drubbing to follow a 113-run loss does not bode well for the visitors in
the final match.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On Christmas Day, Sri Lanka were ailed by largely the same issues
that have troubled them in the previous matches. The attack lacked
confidence and penetration as Lasith Malinga went wicketless for the
second time in the series and Nuwan Kulasekara was uncharacteristically
wayward. Rangana Herath’s poise and experience has also been greatly
missed, as has his indomitable spirit that has seen him script
limited-overs comebacks before. Herath’s replacement, Ajantha Mendis, is
yet to get a game.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The batting has threatened in patches, but unlike Pakistan who have
found a centurion in each match and made century stands a defining
feature of their innings, Sri Lanka have not managed even one
triple-figure partnership. The visitors’ only win was a result of
several modest contributions stacked together, but ODI history suggests
piecemeal efforts only rarely result in victories. Sri Lanka need a
top-order man to anchor each innings, as Mohammad Hafeez has done so
prolifically for Pakistan.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Strangely for Pakistan, they have played safe, intelligent, formulaic
cricket with the bat that Sri Lanka have not been able to challenge.
Their attack has retained the flair that is the source of its menace.
Saeed Ajmal claimed his best haul in the series in the last match, while
both Umar Gul and Junaid Khan continue to bowl effective spells. If
Pakistan can complete a 4-1 rout in Abu Dhabi, they will arrive in the
Tests on a cloud of confidence, and will also have deflated the Sri
Lanka batsmen who cross over into the longest format. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The 5th ODI match between Pakistan vs Sri Lanka is being played at
Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on 27th December at 11:00 GMT, 15:00
local in Abu Dhabi and 16:00 PKT in Pakistan.</div>

<h2>
<span style="color: red;">Team news</span></h2>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Shahid Afridi has flown back to Pakistan early due to personal
reasons, but in any case, Pakistan may be tempted to trial young players
in the dead rubber. Seam bowler Anwar Ali has been sitting on the
sidelines for the whole series, as has left-handed batsman Haris Sohail.
They may get a game tomorrow if Pakistan choose to rest key Test
players, with the Test series starting on Tuesday. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Sri Lanka will almost certainly retain Priyanjan, and perhaps
Kithuruwan Vithanage as well. If the surface looks like it will be
receptive to turn, legspinning allrounder Seekkuge Prasanna could return
in place of either Suranga Lakmal or Kulasekara. </div>

<h2>
<span style="color: red;">Stats and trivia</span></h2>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- In addition to Hafeez’ monumental series average, Misbah-ul-Haq,
Sohaib Maqsood and Ahmed Shehzad all have averages exceeding 50. Sri
Lanka’s best average for a batsman who has played more than one innings
is 40 – to Angelo Mathews.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- Junaid has taken ten wickets in the series, Ajmal seven and Gul
six. The most penetrative Sri Lankan bowlers have been Suranga Lakmal
and Thisara Perera with three apiece. </div>
<h2>
<span style="color: red;">Series Updates</span></h2>
Pakistan and Sri Lanka play 2 T20s, 5 ODIs followed by 3 tests in UAE
during 2013-14. The T20 series was drawn 1-1 and now Pakistan has
claimed the ODI series 3-1 with the final match being played today.<br />

<div class="news-sub" style="text-align: justify;">
Big Picture</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Pakistan have never won a bilateral series against South Africa despite
coming close a number of times. Four times out of six, the two teams
have gone on to the last match with the fate of the series in the
balance, only for South Africa to come out trumps every time. However,
with their experienced limited-overs names back in the squad, Pakistan
would feel they have a chance to topple a South African side not having
its best year in ODIs. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
South Africa have lost 10 out of their 18 matches this year, including a
series against New Zealand at home and more recently, a series in Sri
Lanka. It's the first time since 2004 that they have a win-loss ratio
less than one. Pakistan, on the other hand, have beaten India, West
Indies and Zimbabwe in bilateral series. Only four rating points
separate the two teams and a series win will help Pakistan march ahead
of South African and occupy the fifth place in ICC rankings. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
There are obvious areas of concern for Pakistan. For a team that has
played more than 20 matches this year, that only three of its batsmen
have scored more than 300 runs reflects poorly on its batting.
Misbah-ul-Haq has had a stellar year, but the young batsmen on whom
Pakistan have invested haven't paid back yet. So it's another chance for
players like Ahmed Shehzad, Nasir Jamshed and Asad Shafiq to establish
themselves. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
South Africa have also struggled with their batting this year despite
the presence of some experienced names and have asked Gary Kirsten to
mentor the batsmen during the ODI series. If both teams' batting follows
the trend, it could mean the bowlers will have a larger role to play in
the series, especially the spinners, of whom Pakistan are likely to
feature three in every game - Saeed Ajmal, Mohammad Hafeez and Shahid
Afridi. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Misbah-ul-Haq</b> is the leading the ODI batting charts this year
with 961 runs at an average of 60.06. He has scored 11 half-centuries
this year, but has not been able to break the 128-match century drought.
He can be destructive with the bat, but such opportunities do not come
often, as he is mostly required to build the innings after a top-order
collapse. He would hope that the home conditions in the UAE will help
the batsmen ahead of him to at least set a platform for him in this
series. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>David Miller</b> smashed an unbeaten 96 in his last competitive
match, in the domestic one-day tournament six days ago. But he has shown
in the ODIs recently that he also has the holding game that's required
of a middle-order batsman from time to time. He is likely to get a good
run in the UAE, but he will be tested against the trio of Pakistan
spinners. </div>

<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Rubel Hossain's
six-wicket haul, including a hat-trick, turned the first ODI on its
head, helping Bangladesh win by 43 runs by the Duckworth-Lewis method.
The visitors were starting to get away with the game despite a steep
target after the 105-minute rain break, needing 124 off the remaining 13
overs, but Rubel's spell marked the turning point. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
The last time Rubel faced New Zealand in Mirpur,
he took four wickets including the last one of Kyle Mills that sealed
the 4-0 series win. This time, he took the wickets of Corey Anderson,
Brendon McCullum and James Neesham in consecutive balls in his third
over, and later added two more to become only the second Bangladeshi,
after Mashrafe Mortaza, to take six wickets in an ODI. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
New Zealand's target was revised from the original 266 to 206 in 33
overs after heavy rain forced a long interruption 20 overs into the
chase. New Zealand were behind on D/L at that stage and had there been
no further play, Bangladesh would have won. Play resumed, but the
visitors failed to grab their second chance. New Zealand's chase lost
momentum from the promising position after rain, when they needed 86 off
60 balls before Rubel started his third over. They smashed 38 runs off
the three overs immediately after the rain break, having been set a
stiff total to chase. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
The game changed in the 24th over. Anderson had smashed four sixes and
three fours till that point and hence posed a threat to Bangladesh's
chances. But he tried one too many slogs, and was bowled by Rubel off
the third ball of the over. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
McCullum got a ball that took off on him as he advanced on the front
foot, taking a leading edge that was taken easily at point by the
substitute Shamsur Rahman. Rubel had taken a hat-trick
in a domestic one-day competition only last month but oddly, it escaped
his attention. This time, he had the 25,000-plus crowd to remind him.
He bowled a short one down the leg side and Neesham tried to flick it
away. Mushfiqur Rahim took an excellent catch diving to his right, and
once the umpire Enamul Haque was convinced, Rubel wildly celebrated with
his team-mates, among whom was Sohag Gazi who took a Test hat-trick
earlier this month in Chittagong. Rubel became the third Bangladeshi to
take a ODI hat-trick, after Shahadat Hossain (2006) and Abdur Razzak
(2010), both against Zimbabwe. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
He added the wicket of Nathan McCullum in his fifth over to claim his
maiden five-wicket haul. He claimed his sixth when Mortaza took a superb
running catch in the 30th overs and the game ended at that point,
because Kane Williamson, who had injured his hand while fielding, did
not come out to bat. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
New Zealand made a poor start to their 266-run chase. Hamish Rutherford
tried to hit Gazi down the ground, but missed and was bowled in the
fourth over. Grant Elliott was promoted in place of the injured
Williamson, but he didn't force matters. In the 11th over, debutant
Anton Devcich missed a heave across the line to Mahmudullah, to be clean
bowled like Rutherford. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Ross Taylor started off luckily, under-edging one past the
wicketkeeper's left-hand and one past the first slip in the same over
off Mortaza. He became Rubel's first victim when he tried to cut close
to his body but ended up edging to Mushfiqur. The other side of the rain
break belonged to Bangladesh.
</div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Earlier, Mushfiqur and Naeem Islam took hold of a situation that had all
the makings of a typical Bangladesh collapse, when they were struggling
at 25 for 3. Naeem's dour start, alongside Mushfiqur's flair, guided
the home side out of trouble, as they added 154. Mushfiqur brought out a
range of shots, from his favoured slog-sweep to the spinners to the
more conventional cuts and drives. He played the upper-cut on a few
occasions and also pushed the singles, especially when Naeem got stuck
early in his innings. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Naeem took 17 balls to get off the mark, but slowly started finding the
gaps. Naeem got to 50 off 75 balls, while Mushfiqur reached his
half-century off 53 balls. Mushfiqur continued to be aggressive towards
the latter part of his innings, but fell in the second over of the
batting Powerplay, edging Neesham's off-cutter to the wicketkeeper for
90 off 97 balls. Naeem too fell to the same bowler for 84 off 115 balls,
trying to hoick a slower one but edging it to the wicketkeeper. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Before that, Naeem added 51 for the sixth wicket with Mahmudullah, which
was crucial because Bangladesh's usual finisher, Nasir Hossain, was out
in the same over as Mushfiqur, the 37th. The New Zealand bowlers held
things back in the last ten overs, conceding just 62 runs. They took
four wickets in the last five overs after Naeem fell in the 45th over,
with Neesham ending with four wickets. In the end, rain and Rubel came
in their way.

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
While lifting India from 76 for 4 to 303 for 9, MS Dhoni had spoiled James Faulkner's
figures at the death. Faulkner took it out on Ishant Sharma at the
death in Australia's chase. Rarely, if ever, has a bowler lost it so
completely while bowling to a fellow bowler. Australia needed 44 off 18
when Ishant was given the ball. Six balls and 30 runs later off
Faulkner's bat, the game was effectively over.
</div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Australia's chase had started strongly, but had been suffocated
mid-innings, chiefly by Ravindra Jadeja's ten overs for 31 runs. George
Bailey and Adam Voges had tried to keep pace, but the asking rate
continued to climb. Voges had gamely hung on amid a clutch of
middle-order wickets, including his own mix-up with Glenn Maxwell, when
Faulkner joined him at 213 for 6. While their partnership lasted and
grew, it seemed more a belated and inadequate attempt than a threatening
one. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Then Ishant was brought back for the 48th over. If you can apply brevity
to carnage, here is what happened. Full and wide, four. Short, six.
Length, six. Short, two. Short, six. Short, six. By the time he pulled
that last six into a shocked Mohali crowd, Faulkner had blasted 54 off
24, and Australia needed 14 off 12. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
R Ashwin conceded only five in the 49th, but the damage was
irreversible. Seeing his blinder of a century being nullified by his
bowler's meltdown, Dhoni refused to give in. Seeing Faulkner was
basically swinging them into the leg side, he put all the four
permissible deep fielders there, including two long-ons. He needn't have
bothered. With six needed off four, Vinay Kumar delivered a full toss,
and Faulkner swung it over all those deep fielders. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
One wonders what Dhoni feels seeing his bowlers do what they usually do -
lose limited-overs games for him. More than that, one wonders how he
manages to keep what he feels to himself when one of his bowlers is
going through his latest meltdown. It is hard being Dhoni. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
When India batted, he twisted his ankle in the 14th over while turning
for a second run. He hadn't even faced a ball. He took treatment,
reached 50 off 77, and then accelerated to his ninth ODI hundred in the
next 30. Dhoni's favourite territory, the final stage of the innings,
was yet to arrive. The Australia captain dropped him first ball of the
penultimate over, off Shane Watson. Dhoni pulverized 34 off the final 12
deliveries to end unbeaten on 139, the third-highest score by a No 6
batsman, after Kapil Dev and Andrew Symonds. Even if it was normal
service coming from Dhoni, that did not make the innings any less
mind-boggling. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
The last time Dhoni made an ODI century, in December 2012, he took India
from 29 for 5 against Pakistan to 227 for 6. Helping him that day was
Ashwin, who was around today as well, showing superb calm in adding 76
for the seventh wicket with his captain. Before that, Virat Kohli had
been an equal partner in a fifth-wicket stand of 72, but had fallen
against the run of play for his third successive score of 50-plus this
series. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Admirable as these twin acts were, they were supporting ones. The stage
belonged to Dhoni, who once again showed the entire range of his
limited-overs batsmanship - from precisely-judged singles to hustling
twos, from deftly placed boundaries to the late, towering sixes. And
yes, he turned down three singles in the last two overs with Vinay at
the other end. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Dhoni hit one four in his first 67 deliveries. He ended with 12 fours
and five sixes. Faulkner's first eight overs went for 33, including just
one run off the 46th. Dhoni hung back in the crease at the end, pulling
out scythes, slices, slogs, helicopter-swings. Faulker's last two overs
went for 32. Between those two overs, the threat of Dhoni made even as
experienced a man as Shane Watson bowl two wides. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Before all this Dhoni frenzy, India's specialist batsmen had been
roughed up for the second time in three games by Australian pace and
bounce, especially by Johnson. But after the Dhoni frenzy, for the
second time in the match, Australia frittered away a strong position. A
start of 68 for 0 in 12.1 overs became 88 for 3 in 19.1. India's bowlers
did well, bringing their side back with tight lines and lengths that
squeezed the runs and built pressure. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Voges ran hard and kept hitting the odd boundary, but the game was
slipping away from Australia. Queerly, Dhoni handed the ball to Kohli in
the 40th over, which went for 18, courtesy Brad Haddin. The
wicketkeeper's cameo ensured Australia were not completely out of it
yet, despite the big overs Dhoni had managed late in India's innings. As
it turned out, while they had Dhoni, India also had Ishant, and
Faulkner was ready.
</div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Australia allrounder Glenn Maxwell has praised his captain George Bailey for being an upbeat and consistent leader, and said that he has settled into Michael Clarke's role at the helm quickly.
</div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Bailey, Australia's T20 captain, stepped in as the ODI leader for the
tour of India after Clarke was ruled out due to a chronic back problem.
The selectors had wanted Clarke to recover in time for the upcoming
Ashes. Bailey had captained Australia in the bilateral ODI series
against Sri Lanka earlier this year and the recent Champions Trophy. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"George has obviously been an excellent captain for Tasmania back home
and he's done very well," Maxwell said. "He's won tournaments for them
and he's brought that straight into Australia. He's a very confident
captain. He's always very upbeat out in the field. He's good to talk to
with the bowlers. He's very calm. And especially when he's making runs,
he's been such a consistent performer over the last 18 months. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"It's great to have him doing well at the top and being one of our best
performers, not just our skipper. He's been brilliant for the group and
has really settled into Pup's [Clarke] shoes quickly. As much as we're
going to welcome Pup back, it's been great to have Bails as skipper for
this series."
</div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
In the series against India, Bailey has emerged as the highest
run-scorer for Australia after three matches, scoring 220 runs at an
average of 110. His unbeaten 92 in the second ODI in Jaipur helped Australia amass 359 for 5, although they were beaten by India in that game. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Australia's innings in the second ODI was also the first instance of the
top five batsmen in a side scoring half-centuries. Australia have put
up 300+ scores in all three ODIs so far, but none of their batsmen have
managed a century, compared to the three scored by Indian batsmen.
Maxwell did not express concern over the statistic and stressed that it
was an example of how well the team was playing as a unit. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"Even though no one has got a hundred yet, everyone has played pretty
well," he said. "All the batters are in good form and have scored runs
through the series. It's not a big concern. The guys obviously want to
post three figures but even if they're not, and we're getting the job
done, I think we're very happy with the way we're going. The game when
we had 360 chased down, no one made 100. Our top five made fifties and
that's the first time in cricket history that's happened. I don't think
we're too worried about the triple-figure scores, as long as we keep
getting over that 300 barrier and keep posting big totals." </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Maxwell has had a quiet series so far, scoring 87 runs in three matches
at an average of 29, but said he had improved as a batsman following a
successful tour of South Africa as part of the A team in July this year.
In two unofficial Tests, Maxwell scored 172 runs at an average of
57.33, finishing as the third-highest run-scorer for Australia behind
David Warner and Nic Maddinson. In the List A tri-series against India A
and South Africa A, Maxwell scored 256 runs in five matches at an
average of 64, finishing third among the run-scorers. The tour, he said,
had given him a chance to work on his batting for an extended period. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"I think playing in South Africa for the A series over there helped my
game a lot," Maxwell said. "We started off with a couple of four-dayers
and I really worked hard on my game. The wickets were pretty favourable
for batting, so it was good to spend a bit of time in the middle. Over
the last couple of years, I haven't really spent a whole lot of time in
the middle. I've gone in when we've needed to tee off at the end and
play different roles. It was nice to work on my batting over there for
an extended period of time."

<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Younis Khan
was baffled by his continued omission from Pakistan's limited-overs
teams. Though a regular in the Test side, he could not find a place in
the 16-man squad
announced for the five-match ODI series against South Africa, and has
been out of the running in limited-overs cricket since the Champions
Trophy, when a run of seven innings without crossing fifty forced him
out of the squad.
</div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"I'm surprised I am not in the one-day team. It's quite shocking for
me," Younis said ahead of Pakistan's second Test against South Africa.
"I am available for all formats of the game." </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Pakistan have moved towards younger players in the shorter forms with
the likes of batsman Umar Amin and recently, Sohaib Maqsood, preferred
over older hands such as Younis. Pakistan's batting struggled in the
Champions Trophy but they recovered well in series against West Indies
and Zimbabwe, both of which they won. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Younis' concern, though, is that younger players may not have seized the
opportunities presented to them. Pakistan's recent victories came on
the back of the seniors' performance. Misbah-ul-Haq in particular has
been a mainstay with the likes of Mohammad Hafeez also scoring important
runs.
</div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Nasir Jamshed has made starts but his last half-century came six innings
ago and even though both Amin and Ahmed Shehzad managed to score a
fifty each against Zimbabwe, their form as been patchy. Younis said if
the younger players were producing to a high standard, he would have
more understanding for his own axing. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"I am happy if somebody replaces me and performs," he said. "Whenever I
share my ideas and experience with the younger guys, I always tell them
that it's about performance. I think if the youngsters are here and they
perform well, I will be the first one to be happy for them."
</div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Younis delivered his assessment on the selection of the one-day squad
with a smile on his face and no malice in his voice and he seemed to be
making his statements out of curiosity over his exclusion and not
criticism. He went on to clarify he is not targeting the 2015 World Cup
but will be happy if he makes it that far. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
"As long as I am fit, I will carry on playing and I would like to play
in all formats. Even after I captained Pakistan in the 2009 World T20, I
didn't want to stop playing the twenty-over format (click here
for his comments in 2009)," he said. "But once I am not fit anymore and
I can see my body is taking strain, then I will be honest enough to say
I am going to stop playing."

Corey Anderson
showed how he could be New Zealand's next big all-round option, scoring
a responsible 75 to prop up his wobbling team alongside Kane Williamson.
Williamson showed no signs of being hindered by the blow he received
just below the left temple yesterday from Rubel Hossain, scoring a
half-century himself as New Zealand got to within 51 runs of
Bangladesh's total in the morning session of day three. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
It didn't look as though they would make that much progress when Shakib Al Hasan
claimed his fourth wicket after a slightly delayed start - play began
20 minutes late due to a light rain - having Ross Taylor edge one that
was turning away to Nasir Hossain at slip. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
From there on, though, Williamson and Anderson, playing in only his
second Test, took charge. The pair went about their work quietly,
picking up boundaries only when the bowlers strayed on either side of
the wicket. Both were solid against the spinners, Williamson especially
getting expertly down low to negotiate the slow bowlers. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Anderson still managed to score relatively quickly, though, bringing up
his fifty off 72 balls. If he and Williamson can convert their starts to
big scores, New Zealand could be in a way more comfortable position by
tea than looked probable when a wicket fell in the fourth over of the
morning.

<br />
<br />
<div class="news-sub" style="text-align: justify;">
Big Picture</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
India's bowlers are usually a much scrutinised lot. As the ODI series
moves east to their captain's hometown, Ranchi, the spotlight will shine
ever brighter on them. They have conceded more than 300 every time they
have bowled in this series. MS Dhoni has warned that one cannot expect
his batsmen, powerful as they are, to score that many in every match. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
The cricketing world has been conspiring against ODI bowlers for years
now, but lamenting about one less deep fielder won't help India. Even
nine fielders on the leg-side boundary would not have helped them in
Mohali during Ishant Sharma's 30-run over, because James Faulkner's
sixes would have cleared them easily. Will the India bowlers be able to
keep their cool at the death? Even in Pune, Australia were 264 for 7 in the 47th over before Faulkner took them to 304. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
It seems an age ago, going by their current form, but in January,
India's bowlers dismissed England for 155 in 42.2 overs in Ranchi's first international match.
The fast bowlers found some movement, and the spinners some turn. Dhoni
got the chance to hit the winning runs, making it a "perfect script"
for him in his hometown. As long as India manage to square the series,
he won't care about ideal endings this time. Falling 1-2 behind means
India have to win three of four games to take the series.
</div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Australia will know that it was the contributions from the lower order
that pushed them past 300 in both their wins. They have started solidly
but have lost wickets regularly in the middle. In Mohali, they were tied
down by Ravindra Jadeja, who has conceded only 4.60 runs an over this
series. With only four men allowed in the deep, the odd
pressure-releasing boundary shouldn't be too hard to find.

In the spotlight</div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Various ODI captains have spoken of the need to preserve wickets against
the two new balls and build for an onslaught later. In this context, a
strong opening partnership becomes even more important. Australia's
openers have put on 56, 110, 74 and 68 so far on the tour. <b>India's openers</b>,
in comparison, have managed 12, 26, 176 and 14. Shikhar Dhawan and
Rohit Sharma have established themselves at the top this year, and now
India need them to be more consistent. </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Glenn Maxwell</b> has threatened to cause much damage with a couple of fearsome cameos, as his 53 off 32 in Jaipur
highlighted. He's also been involved in a couple of mix-ups that have
led to him being run-out. "I need to work on that," Maxwell said. "It's
something that's happened to me a few times in the past. Hopefully it
stops very soon." Australia will want him to kick on tomorrow.

<div class="news-sub" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Now that the selectors have persisted with Ishant for the rest of the
series, the big question is whether he will play in Ranchi. "I hope he
will come back strongly tomorrow," Suresh Raina said of his team-mate in
the pre-match press conference. If one goes by that statement, Ishant
will keep his place. Considering how much Dhoni supported Rohit during
his horror run in 2012, backing Ishant for a few more games won't be
much of a stretch. </div>

<b>Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited</b>
</div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
SNGPL were the most successful team from last year, winning the
President's Trophy final after topping the table with six victories and
three drawn games. Their success was largely reliant on the captaincy of
Misbah-ul-Haq, with help from the likes of Mohammad Hafeez, Umar Akmal,
Adnan Akmal, Azhar Ali and veteran first-class batsman Taufeeq Umar. At
full strength, they are the most formidable side going into the
tournament, but this year's combination is likely to be inconsistent as
their top players will be busy with the national side. Pakistan are
currently in the UAE involved in a Test series against South Africa, and
are scheduled to play Sri Lanka subsequently over the next two months.
SNGPL also harbour some exciting young talents in wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan and left-hand batsman Ali Waqas. </div>
<div class="news-body">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Habib Bank Limited</b>
</div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Habib Bank bounced back strongly to capture second place last year,
after being relegated to division two in the 2011-12 season (with the
format later changing). They had won as many games - six - as SNGPL, but
one loss put them below the champions with 51 points. They are a
charismatic side, hosting two of Pakistan's best young openers in Ahmed Shehzad and Shan Masood.
In addition to a strong batting line-up, the Younis Khan-led side has
Umar Gul and Abdur Rehman to prop up the bowling department. However,
with their top players likely to be called up for national duty, Habib
Bank's efforts to create a winning outfit could be dented </div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>National Bank of Pakistan</b>
</div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
A team well known for their flair, NBP could only finish seventh last
year. They are the biggest department in the country, but success has
been hard to come by, having last won the Quaid-e-Azam tournament in
1987. Consistency with the bat could remedy that statistic and Akbar-ur-Rehman, Fawad Alam and Nasir Jamshed are charged with that. Jamshed, in particular, will be keen to showcase his talent in the longer format, after being dropped
from the Test side following the South Africa tour. Left-arm spinner
Raza Hasan, whose international comeback had been delayed due to a back injury, will be expected to provide most of the breakthroughs. </div>

<b>Pakistan International Airlines</b>
</div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
In recent years, Pakistan International Airlines have looked a different side under the leadership of former national captain Shoaib Malik.
Their last first-class title was two years ago, but finished fourth
last year with the advent of the new format. The squad does not want for
experience with Faisal Iqbal, Kamran Sajid, Shoaib Khan and Jan Nisar
on call. Zia-ul-Haq,
a promising left-arm fast bowler, who last played for National Bank of
Pakistan, will join Aizaz Cheema and Anwar Ali to make a potent bowling
attack. </div>

<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>United Bank Limited</b>
</div>
<div class="news-body" style="text-align: justify;">
Had a disappointing season last year, failing to win a single game and

Pakistan <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD5">beat</span> Zimbabwe by 108 runs the third and final one-day international in Harare on Saturday, to clinch the three <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD4">match</span> series 2-1.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Zimbabwe started their chase of 261 in poor fashion as they lost opener Vusi Sibanda in the fourth over for just two runs.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This seemed to set the tone of the match as the hosts continued to lose wickets cheaply at regular intervals.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Malcolm Waller was the only batsman to offer some form of resistance as he made 48 from 71 balls.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Pakistan bowlers were in good form, as Saeed Ajmal, Mohammad Irfan and Abdur Rehman picked up <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD6">a couple</span> of wickets each.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Earlier, steady half-centuries from Misbah-ul-Haq and Ahmed Shehzad allowed Pakistan <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD1">to apply</span> a late <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD2">flourish</span> and reach a competitive <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD3">score</span> of 260.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Misbah reached fifty from 74 balls before opening up, while Sarfraz
Ahmed and the returning Hafeez also weighed in as a late flurry brought
94 runs in the last 10 overs.

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Misbah:</strong> I was really struggling initially as the ball was not coming onto <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD9">the bat</span>. Openers gave us a good start, but things changed when Amin came and eased the pressure a bit. When I was <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD3">batting</span>, the wicket was bit low as it had inconsistent bounce <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD4">and stroke</span> maing for difficult. I normally don’t think of the records, we always <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD7">concentrate on</span> <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD6">winning</span> every match. We have a balanced squad for Test matches and I don’t think we will have any problem</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Misbah-ul-haq is <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD8">the Man of</span> the Match for his fighting fifty.</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Hafeez:</strong> We have had a good series, but all thanks to the supporting staff and my teammates. I still have some pain in <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD1">the hamstring</span>,
but I am happy to win the series. I thought to retire as running was
bit difficult. Misbah asked me to bowl with the new ball as he wanted to
put pressure on Zimbabwe from the word go. I would also like to thank
the sponsors and the crowd for their support.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Hafeez is the Man of the Series for his all-round display</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Taylor:</strong> We were definetely off-track today. We restricted them to a decent total, but panicked while chasing. We have lots of <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD2">positives</span>
to take from this series. Pakistan played well through out and that was
the difference in the end. 3 run-outs also hurted us. Lot of top order
guys are in good nick and hopefully we will do well in the Test series.
The guys have worked really hard and it’s nice <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD5">to play</span> a Test match at home</div>

<strong>Toss:</strong> Australia have won the toss and have opted to field<br />
<br />
<strong>Bailey:</strong> We will bowl first. It will be nice to get
the series win today. It was a good entertaining night the other day. It
looks a good wicket and it might nibble around a bit. We have one
change Coulter-Nile in place of Hazlewood.<br />
<br />
<strong>Broad:</strong> It looks a good wicket. It was just one innings that took the match away from us. We did well to get near to their <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD4">score</span> and take positive from that. We are unchanged for today.<br />
