London: Rahul Dravid on Saturday went past former Australian captain Ricky Ponting to take the second spot behind Sachin Tendulkar in the list of all-time run-scorers in Test cricket.
Dravid, who was 49 runs behind Ponting at the start of the first Test against England at Lord's, reached the mark when he brought up his 50 in India's first innings on day three.
He flicked a Graeme Swann delivery past midwicket to the fence to bring up his 50 as India chased England's first innings score of 474/8 declared.
At the start of the game, Dravid had 12314 runs, while Ponting had aggregated 12363. Tendulkar, who fell for 34, leads the list with 14692 runs at the start of the Lord's Test.
While it does look difficult for either Dravid or Ponting to catch up with Tendulkar who leads the run list for both Tests and ODIs, the second spot could see a see-saw battle this year, especially with India touring Australia for a full series starting December.
Here is the list of the leading run-scorers in Test cricket:
Sachin Tendulkar: 14726
Rahul Dravid: 12373
Ricky Ponting: 12363
Brian Lara: 11953
Jacques Kallis: 11947
Alan Border: 11174
